How the domain search works

Three steps, no sign-up, and nothing hidden behind a checkout flow.

01

Type a name

Results start streaming before you finish the word. No extension picker, no search button, no page reload between checks.

02

Scan the whole namespace

Every extension is queried in parallel and grouped by category, so you compare the obvious .com against tech, country and budget alternatives side by side.

03

Research, then register

Open any name in research to see its full history and footprint, then jump straight to checkout with the domain already filled in.

One tool for the whole naming decision

Search

Hundreds of extensions, one keystroke

Most checkers make you choose an extension first and answer one question at a time. FlashDomains inverts that: the name is the query and the namespace is the answer. Filter to available only, sort cheapest first, or narrow to a category when you already know the shape of the brand you want.

  • Live RDAP registry lookups with DNS as a fallback signal
  • Typed suffixes such as .co.ke or .com.au pinned to the top
  • Cheapest-first view for launch budgets
Generator

Turn one keyword into a shortlist

When the exact name is gone, the generator builds brandable coinages, compounds, prefixed and suffixed variants and clipped forms from your keyword, then checks each idea live as it appears. Nothing on the list is a dead end you have to re-verify by hand.

  • Five idea styles, from brandable to literal compounds
  • Fans each idea across .com, .io, .ai and more
  • Every suggestion is availability-checked as it renders
Research

Know what you are buying

Availability is only half the decision. Research pulls the registry record, DNS and mail setup, hosting fingerprints, archived snapshots and social handle availability into one dashboard, with a brandability score and an estimated value band for context.

  • Registrar, creation, expiry and status codes
  • A, MX, SPF and DMARC records with provider detection
  • Handle availability across the platforms that matter

Popular domain extensions explained

Each guide covers who the extension suits, who runs the registry, any registration restrictions and how it is usually priced.

.com

The default extension of the web

.com is the oldest and most widely recognised generic top-level domain. Because almost every short, common word is already registered, the fastest way to find a free .com is to search variations and compound names rather than single dictionary words.

.ai

The extension AI companies actually use

.ai is the country-code extension for Anguilla, but it has been adopted worldwide as the shorthand for artificial intelligence. Anyone can register one, and availability is far better than .com for the same name.

.io

The developer and startup favourite

.io became the default extension for developer tools, APIs and technical startups because it reads as input/output and short names stayed available long after .com ran dry.

.co

A short stand-in when .com is gone

.co is Colombia's country extension, opened globally and marketed as short for company. It is the most common fallback when the .com of a brand name is already registered.

.app

HTTPS-only by design

.app is a generic extension operated by Google Registry. Every .app domain is on the HSTS preload list, so browsers require HTTPS — a certificate is mandatory, not optional.

.dev

For developers, docs and tooling

.dev is a Google Registry extension aimed at developers. Like .app, it is HSTS preloaded, so HTTPS is required for every site.

.org

Trusted by nonprofits and communities

.org has been open since 1985 and is associated with nonprofits, open-source projects, standards bodies and community groups — though anyone may register one.

.net

The long-standing .com alternative

.net was originally intended for network infrastructure providers and is now open to everyone. It remains one of the most recognised alternatives when the .com is unavailable.

Guides to naming and buying

Domain search questions, answered

Is this domain search free to use?

Yes. Searching, generating names and running domain research are all free, with no account and no request limits for normal use.

Where does the availability data come from?

Primarily RDAP, the registration data protocol every registry publishes, with a DNS lookup as a second signal. A few registries expose no public data, and those results are marked so you can confirm at the registrar.

Does available always mean the standard price?

No. Registries reserve some names as premium and price them well above the base rate, so always confirm the first-year and renewal price at checkout before you commit.

How many domain extensions are checked?

Every keystroke fans out across hundreds of extensions grouped into popular, tech, business, creative and country categories, plus a cheapest-first view for tight budgets.

Can I check a country domain like .co.ke or .co.uk?

Yes. Type the full suffix and it is parsed and checked against that country registry, then pinned to the top of your results alongside the .com equivalent.

What does the research tab tell me about a taken domain?

Registrar and registration dates, DNS and mail configuration, hosting and CDN fingerprints, archived history, whether a live site is parked, and whether the matching handle is free on the major platforms.
